T. gratilla are found in waters in the indo-west pacific region, as well as south pacific islands such as Norfolk to the Hawaiian islands (Lawrence & Agatsuma 2007). Mainly found in Australian waters, various members of the T. gratilla subspecies are found in varying geographic regions. Due to their temperature sensitive nature they are not found in northern or southern waters near to poles (Lawrence & Agatsuma 2007).
